CGRundertow CALL OF DUTY 3 for Xbox 360 Video Game Review

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 just set a
record with the biggest entertainment launch in history. That’s impressive stuff, considering
that the record was previously held by Avatar. However, some newcomers to the series might
accidentally refer to that game as Call of Duty 3, which came out 5 years ago, and it
was Treyarch’s first attempt at making a Call of Duty game, back when the games were
still set in World War 2. This is Call of Duty 3 for the Xbox 360.
Like my Medal of Honor review, this is going to be a strictly single-player review for
the same reasons. It’s 5 years old, and there are better Call of Duty games on the
market, so online play wouldn’t represent what it was originally like. Call of Duty
3 has a similar plot to the earlier games in the series. You’re still switching between
different soldiers of different nationalities, and this helps to give you a sense of just
how large this war really was. You’ll have your standard American and British troops,
but other troops like Polish and Canadian soldiers help to keep things a little bit
fresh. In addition, the game uses really nice cutscenes that help to give a small historical
background of the events taking place at the time of each level, not unlike Treyarch’s
2008 game, World at War. It’s one of the best parts of older Call of Duty games, but
it just wouldn’t work in the newer games that feature entirely fictional plots.
Now, while this is a Call of Duty game, its gameplay might make some people a little bit
confused when the start up the disc. For starters, recoil on weapons is incredibly vicious, far
more than that in Call of Duty 2, and enemy AI actually seems a little bit worse. In addition,
this game introduced the ability to throw back grenades at enemies, which is now a given
in any Call of Duty game. There’s something really satisfying about doing that. The game
also uses melee quick-time events with enemy soldier that require trigger pulling and fast
button presses. These have been much improved in recent games, but they feel super lame
in this one. Treyarch’s main problem with Call of Duty
3 is that very small changes make it feel like a completely different game. This isn’t
a big thing on its own, but having rifles and grenades perform so much differently from
the previous game in the series is really hard to get used to, especially when, to be
frank, Call of Duty 2 did it better. Combat just plays out much smoother in that game,
especially when fighting over long distances. That game does include some destructible elements
that really do feel like a welcome addition the series, and it’s strange that they’ve
never been used again. Blowing up a floor with a grenade is a…achem…blast.
Visually, Call of Duty 3 is one of the more impressive early 360 games. Faces, weapons
and environments all look excellent, as well as smoke and explosion effects. In addition,
the game features very nice voice acting, although the German lines do seem to be ripped
directly from Call of Duty 2. I guess there were only so many things that Nazis knew how
to say. Call of Duty 3 is not a bad game by any stretch
of the imagination, and it truly did innovate, but with a superior World War 2 game available
in Call of Duty 2, there really isn’t much reason to play this one today.

no it was the 2nd there 1st was cod 2 big red one
Loved the multiplayer in this game
hi…
Ahh the good old days of WWII before the franchise became a huge, mainstream, cash cow.
My favourite cod is still world at war i still play it all the time. I tink ww2 is a much better setting then modern times it just has an extra layer of realism
When the guy was giving everyone in the van that little speech; he should of quoted Full Metal Jacket.
This is my Favorite Call Of Duty Game The PS2 version is really impressive
Multiplayer still rules
the germans in world at war still says the same things except that they changed it a little bit that they only refer to soviet troops instead of american troops or british
Ill stick with 2. To this day no other game has done a better military shooter – For the single player anyway. Multi is a different story 🙂
cod 3 online was beast
@xkrazyxboix101 i totally agree with it being the best multiplayer for cod
@GateOfAwesome tell me your kidding me… the xbox has an x as well, almost all consoles do
anyone else notice this WASNT the xbox 360 version its the ps3, you can tell in cut scene
@GateOfAwesome Xbox has an "X" too….
thats ps2 not xbox 360 cause i saw l1 r2 and x
when i saw this on ps2 i CAME………..
Review the 2 best COD-games next please =)
Cod 1 and Cod 2 for the PC… The rest of the series is crap imo.
Looks the same as MW3
Don't like this genre or this series anymore, you can guess why BUT I really liked this COD and COD 2!
Enjoyed the Ruskie campain and the Polskie campain the most of two and three to bad the Polskie campain wasn't that long in three.
what? i think COD 2-3 had much much better mp then there is now days, shame on you reviewer yuck.
I honestly only enjoy the MW series. Its because I found it interesting to see how WW3 would be like in a modern day setting. Plus, the weapons and overall feeling of the game has this really slick feeling ya know….Thats why i enjoy it.
Cod 4 FTW!
*reads description* "This is Treyarch first crack at a Call of Duty game."
Uh, no. That was Call of Duty 2: Big Red One on GameCube, PS2, and XBOX.
Call of Duty used to be cool (even up until Black Ops)… then it took MW3 to the knee -_-
no fense but i prefer the WW2 CODs waaaaaaay more than any of the other stuff. im not sure how i felt about black opps though.
@kapeesh67 EXACTLY the same here, kinda of weird someone wrote this in the comments before I came to the video, but with the exception of me liking COD 4 more. Still this game has a special place in my heart.
Infinity Ward was here.
Treyarch is a loser.
I beat this on the 360. The campaign was fun, and some guy said that the French are only good at surrendering and kissing, which is funny as hell
Treyarch did Call of Duty 2: Big Red One before this. IT was awesome, as well
do a call of duty 4 review !
sorry but cod2 on pc was the best ive played
@Aggtownciti @2:25 says RT & LT, and the X button is blue… so 360 version
This wasn't Treyarch's first? they helped make Big Red One
@Aggtownciti :/ Incorrect.
Not a bad game i enjoyed it at the time but then along came COD 4 which was just……wow.
The day before COD died and became the sold out graphic obsessed zombie that all the kiddies have dreams about. they dont make em like this anymore
To me, World At War will always be the best Call of Duty… i miss that game… hopefully they let treyarch go back to WWII 🙂
actually big red one was the firs treyarch call of duty
You're wrong about this being Treyarch's first CoD. Big Red One was the first.
Treyarch definitely is a fantastic developer. I loved Big CoD 2: Big Red One, CoD 3, CoD World at War & CoD Black Ops (:
when i was 8-7 i got on the part where u go on a car and drive…it took me 3 months to get to that part, then i lost the game, met a freind, stole call of duty 3 from him, and now im almost finished with the game and ive played it for about 6-8 hours
yeah I tthink I prefer them over infinity ward
That's what I have been saying for years! At least someone agrees with me.
call of duty 2 sucked ballz 3 was the shit end of story
i Love All Call Of Duty Games
but,in this rewiev theres only one wrong thing…Cod 3 Wasnt the first treyarch game…they created the Call Of Duty 2: Big REd One,a spin off, very fun game
Aha! Another COD connoisseur! yes, most forget about Big Red One but I personally loved that game.
just bought this game… SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
I still play this game daily. So great
This is actually Treyarch's 2nd attempt. It's first attempt was Big Red One.
This game was the turning point in Fish history. After this game, every Fish afterward would never match this caliber.
Don't get me wrong, I love this game.
Everything afterward, just sucked.
CoD needs to go back to ww2 and also alot of lines from WaW were ripped from this one too lol
Ha nice dodge for not reviewing the multi-player because nobody plays it online. You should be in Romney's camp.
Man I miss this game so much! I traded it in at Gamestop! D:
why is the PS2 version great? i have xbox and what do you think of world at war and modern warfare 1
first cod game i played
That was the first Shooter game I played and it holds a special place in my heart.
This wasn't treyarchs first attempt, in fact it was their 3rd. Treyarch has everyone who worked for graymatter games. They created the first expansion for the original cod. They then made big red one and in 2006 released cod3 after only a year of development time.
i liked the jeeps and motorcycles XD
COD 2 was better!
Can't agree more.
COD2 Big Red One for the GCN, PS2 and Xbox was Treyarch's first time making a COD game.
COD 4 equals most overated game ever
Treyarch COD games SUCK. If they did not get to slap the Call of Duty name on there games then no one would ever play them & they would go out of business.
then go make a better one…if not, stfu
yah. XD
I like this game. It's surely a blast w/ the new grenade feature
at least it as no health bar cause in CoD 1 there's health bar
There is a civil war game but it is not COD. It is a history channel game that I have only seen for PS2.
There is no online for PS2 or Gamecube. 🙁
Ha ha ha, what about COD United Offensive on PC you idiot?
It was developed by Gray Matter Interactive, you moron
This kid sounds like a freakin doober.
Treyarch are some of the worst developers in the industry.
TEH SCREWED UP MAH COD
SOOOOOO MANY MEMORIES!
The last great CoD before the modern bullshit dropped and fucked everything up with perks and shit! I get that a series has to adapt and change and yada fuckin yada, but 1-3 were the height of the series as far as i'm concerned. They were a shit ton more tactical, less campy and less on the unrealistic bullshit factor. Dropping fucking nukes because of a killstreak!? Calling dogs, choppers, drones… FUCK THAT and FUCK this review! MP was beast on the earlier games!
dude stfu! stop comparing this game to the newer ones, what a fail
best cod game ever
This guy sounds like a fucking nerd . This guy keeps comparing it to newer games which is really what only assholes would do . 2006 – 2012 .That's a six year gap….do your math shit pants -_-
I wish they braught back ww2 stuff again I miss the good old days where I play so much back then things in my opinion the ww2 games were much better then the Crap they bri ng out now, good times so much fun memory's I wish they just brought it back!
I beat it for the PS3, it's a good game.
Doesn't even focus on the multiplayer, arguably the best part of this game! I would even go so far to say it is the most balanced. Gameplay wise, since it does have preset classes which can drop ammo and health packs, I would say it is akin to a Battlefield game without the aircraft. I seriously wish more people played this game, and even wish more that it was released for PC. This game could have seriously shined on the PC.
Being the only CoD game to allow players to play as a Canadian is pretty damn sweet. Reason alone to buy this game.
This game is Like A Comedy compared to World at war which is like a graphic drama
