Google Voice and Obi not connecting FIX 2.0


Thanks for watching hindsight 101 click the subscribe button and select the notification bell to stay up to date Hello I’m Derrick and welcome to hindsight 101 where you’ll learn about things that will help you in every day life now This is an update video from a previous video. I did about Google Voice and the Obi phone basically to give you a little background Google Voice is a VoIP phone service, and then Obi is an adapter that will let you use your regular phone with Google Voice Google Voice made an update and it broke your connection for you to use Google Voice and the OB adapter So with the model that I have the 110 also the model 100 our end of life OB is no longer making firmware updates offering support if you have any issue so you’re kind of on your own so when this occurred You couldn’t ask Abby for any help. They weren’t putting on any new firmware for it You’d have to buy a new model is what they were saying So I wanted to find other means before I spent 30 40 dollars on a new piece of hardware So I found a workaround you had to pay five dollars to this company And it would get everything to sync up and work again so OB and Google Voice would work as normal Thanks to a comment by Robert Shackleford. Hopefully I said that correctly He pointed out that there was a free option that I could use so basically it’s a third-party firmware that you can Install on your OB device, and it would sink everything back up so you can use Google Voice again? So this video is basically to tell you about how I did it and how well it went Let’s go, so here’s the O V support page I have a link here that takes you to the firmware download and also have a link to the OB support page that tells you how to use the form wear So here’s the page you want to scroll down to the bottom, and it’ll give you a link to the firmware But it also give you some more information about how you can not use OB. Talk to set up the Yo V device. You could actually do it through Google Voice I tried it failed miserably, but by all means if you want to try it go right ahead Next you’re going to want to log in to the OB web portal you can follow the instructions on the scree or if your little savvy you can actually look it up and Login to device yourself now that you’re in the web portal of the device Here you can actually install the firmware you want to make sure that you look at the firmware that you’re on now because it’s going to change once you install it as a Side note you may have to reset the configurations if you made any changes within the Adobe configuration menus remember if you did not make any changes and only installed Google Voice you will not run into this issue I Did and I had to reset it because I ran into problems later on in this tutorial So you want to go under system management click on device update? then you want to click Choose file wherever you downloaded the file as you can see here choose file I Had the file here click on it you see it’s a little different because it has na f7w So what you want to do is install that click update? It’ll say give it about 30 seconds to update if you go to your device. You notice. It’s no longer blinking green It’ll blink red for a few seconds And then finally it’ll go back to green give it a few minutes to reboot says 15 to 20 seconds It’s usually about that time once you’re done. You should see a different firmware version So click return, and you see now you have a different firmware version it has na f7 at the end of it So now you know you have the new third-party firmware Next you’re going to want to log in to the OB Talk website. So you can set up your OB device with Google Voice But first you want to make sure your OB device is in sync with the OB TOC website right there You see a green status so that means it is connected So now we can set up Google Voice Click on google voice setup click accept if you want to put in an area code you can but you don’t have to Then click finish Select the email address if you have more than one that should apply to this account click allow click Confirm to make sure that’s the correct email address Then click finish setup when you’re done Now you have to give it a few minutes to configure actually this took quite a while So I’m gonna speed through this There you go your Google Voice account is connected you can start making phone calls, hope this helped enjoy take care

    To access interface to upgrade to 3rd party update, connect to router find the ip via your router interface. Then plug in the ip into your browser. login: admin password: admin

    Thank you for the awesome tutorial! I entered our Obi 110 ip address in my browser to get to the obi 110 device configuration page. Obtained the ip address by dialing "***" on the phone connected to the Obi 110, then entered "1".

    u rock Derrick & Robert! a year ago, i had updated to the official 1.3.0 fw someone was cool to host outside obi back when EOL was announced. then in may 2018, it stopped working again & this patch did wonders yet again. glad it was easy! didnt even need to config gv911 again.

    Could you please help me figuring this out? I think I'm missing something here. When I go to my OBI portal, I don't see the "device update" option in the left bar menu. There is no section titled "firmware update" either. All I have is "device admin" but there is no option to upload a file. Thank you.

    Thanks for the video. One slight tweak you don't have to delete you account out of the obitalk site just login to google first via google mail etc. Now go to obitalk and login with that same account click on the gear next the the trash can for sp1 or sp2 and then just click on the replace google account credentials.

    I've got 2 Obi 100s that are now dead due to the firmware / cert issue. I have an Obi 202 on the way from Amazon and should be here shortly. I would happily pass on the 100s to anyone that thinks they can put them to good use…. Your link to the Obi forums doesn't go anywhere anymore. The fault of the Obi forums, not yours. The firmware is available at www.obifirmware.com. I updated both Obi100s and tested them on Google Voice with the third party firmware. No problems.

    Derrick, thank you SO much for making this video. VERY helpful in extending the life of this product. Save this little obi100 from landfill.

    Many are effected by Google Voice recent update. (even with last firmware version 1.3.0 Build: 2886) This 3rd party firmware is super easy to install. (big thanks to Robert!)
    Log into your obi100 web interface. (Dial * press 1 to obtain IP address then Enter IP address on your browser "login/password" using "admin/admin". )
    Upload the 3rd party Firmware and my obi100 is working again.
    As for config in OBITalk, all I did was click on my SP1 (since its already set up w/Google Voice previously), select the gear icon (settings), review my setting and save.
    (all done under 5 min)

    After i updated the firmware able to make calls but i dont hear any ringing tone when making calls externally nor can i leave any voicemail, the connection only happens when the called person lifts the phone. Any idea how to fix this?

    how do i get o the System Management on the obi website. I tried choosing the Expert configuration but the system update is not listed in the drop down menu. I also tried entering the IP address but it did not work. Thanks for your feedback.

    My obi 100 shows connected (after updating FW as per here); I get dial tone but no outgoing call service; incoming calls are answered and transcribed fine by GV. (Thumbs up on the OP; nicely done and had me hoping.)

    I have the 200 and it won't connect to do a firmware update. Contacted OBITALK and they said they cannot figure it out. I paid the $10 to Obitalk to find out they do not know what to do. Hopeless.

    02-02-2019: India. This is not working for me. Backing off: Authentication Error is what i am seeing in the status page. Also i am unable to add the obihai 100 device in the obitalk page… kind of loop between the two….

    Has anyone checked this post ? https://www.anand-iyer.com/blog/2017/fixing-google-voice-in-obi100-with-freepbx.html , I dont yet have a spare server to install the FreePBX and Asterisk menitoned in this post…but if anyone can check and let us know if this work, then i can attempt on getting old hardware for this.

    Has this problem now occurred with the Obi202? As of Jun3 23, 2019, my Obi202 has stop working. The Obitalk website has the greenlight indicating it is sync'd with the box, but my attempts to re-add Google Voice and Anveo 911 services won't configure anymore. This literally happened overnight from June 22 to 23 '19. I manually downloaded the latest official firmware from Obitalk, but that has not worked. I have reset the device and made sure auto provisioning is on so the webportal can control it, still no go. I am really upset about this because no warning was given and I have come to rely on this device as my landline service. By the way, the firmware now calls itself Polycom instead of Obitalk, but the webportal remains Obihai.

    i have the right video i did set up my echo connect. i have my google voice to ring all my phones at the same time plus my ECHO. Do you think I should change so only one phone rings ?
