THE BEST OF ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC’S FIRST LA GALAXY PRESS CONFERENCE

Just to say don’t
worry about my age. I know I’m 37,
but when I came to England… they all said I was old. I came in a wheelchair, after three months, I conquered
England and they said I was flying. This is only numbers,
so I know what I’m able to do. I know what I will do. I’ve come here to win. I already brought my family, my wife can take care of the family and I can take care of what
I’m good at, playing football. Just [want] to settle
in very fast, get to know my teammates,
get to know the coach, the people around the club. Tomorrow [is a] big game, and I’m already involved
so I feel excited. The lion is hungry. I told you I’m like
Benjamin Button. They said I was old
in the Premier League, the highest paced
competition in the world. When I was there I felt it. I did it and I took over. So after three months, the haters became my fans. All the people that
were criticising. Then it didn’t become as fun as it
was in the beginning when I joined. That’s why I chose also to
go to the Premier League, because I will never
turn down a challenge. Where many players would
[like to] be comfortable they will choose something that
is easier or more comfortable. I will not, I will take the hardest
thing that there is out there. At 35, people said I would never
make it in the Premier League. Even with players I talked to,
they said don’t go there because you had like 20 years of experience
in other competitions, you had all your trophies you’ve won. You put that, everything, and gamble
when you go to the Premier League. Because if I would do one season in
the Premier League that was not good, they would all say: “All that you did before was not good
enough, because you didn’t make it here.” But I took all those years and
I put it one game, on one bet. Let’s go to the Premier League
and you will see what happens. Same thing here,
I don’t have nothing to prove. Where I needed to prove was when I was
at Malmo and Ajax, when I was young. Now I just have to perform. The player will not change
if you do good or not. It’s all about how you perform. So there is nothing to prove,
because I am the player I am. I know what I’m able to do,
and I know I will do it. To prove? That you ask to an 18-year-old
that comes to a new environment. I’ve been doing
this for 23 years. I know in my head
what the game is, but now the rest of
my body has to follow. And it will follow. I know what I’ve gone through. I know what kind of year, from when
[the injury] happened till now, what I’ve gone through
to get where I am now. Like I said I just want to go out,
play and give back. Make the fans enjoy [themselves]
and help my teammates win. Because if I don’t win
I feel it is a failure. I feel I disappointed myself
because I’m used to winning. I do everything to win. This move [to LA Galaxy]
will not change anything, I come here to win and
I’m pretty sure I will win. I know I will win,
that’s the difference. With Jonathan [Dos Santos], when I said there
were a lot of Mexicans [what I meant] was… Yesterday in the airport when I
arrived I said: “I saw a lot of Mexicans. I don’t know if they are
here for me or for you.” But football is like it is,
it’s… international. I always say:
“Football is one religion.” Wherever you come from,
whoever you are. It brings everybody together
and everybody is welcome. Or ‘soccer’ as we say here,
but yes that’s football. And it’s the biggest
sport in the world. With all the respect for all
the other sports you do out here, but football, there is no sport
that can compete with football. We have four billion [people]
playing football in the world. Imagine the competition
out there, how it is… And imagine when you’re
on top how you feel… It feels good up here.
